The seventh continent
Today was the first time I set foot on the seventh continent.
You may be thinking: „Hang on. Didn’t you already say you did that yesterday?“
Well – no, I didn’t. Yesterday I set foot on an island that is part of Antarctica just as the UK is part of Europe (not the EU – just of Europe): It’s logically attached, but not physically. As an island, it’s separated from the mainland by a sea.
Today, we stopped at Brown Station (after several other landings we had initially planned had to be ditched due to the strong winds, which made it impossible for us to land our Zodiac boats in those places). So – after we had to cancel our Plan A, and Plan B, and quite a few other ones subsequently – we finally went through with Plan E … and took our guests out to mainland Antarctica.
We brought a little banner along that read „My seventh continent!“, and many of our well-travelled guests proudly posed with it against the majestic, snowy backdrop of Antarctica. However I didn’t get to pose with the banner: Antarctica is only my sixth continent. So there’s only two to go: Australia and, obviously, the eigth continent.
