It flows

It flows

Time flies when you are having fun, but also, when you are working 12 hours of the day, and especially, if your work is your idea of fun. We are already well into the second trip of my time on board and I have only managed to write one blog post, usually dropping into bed like a log at the end of the day and sailing off to the land of sweet dreams at a speed of about 20 knots.

Meanwhile, I have camped out on the ice twice, I have led a snowshoeing hike, I have taken guests out cruising in the ice on the zodiac boats – once even in a bit of a snow storm – and have shuttled guests and equipment between the ship and shore. I have given a lecture myself, and have interpreted lectures on polar history, marine mammals and cake (well – actually, it was a geology lecture, but used a cake analogy).

As a consequence of this flurry of activity, I have not had time to post on here. So, for today, I shall just leave you with a few impressions of my job, and will try to find time for a full post some time soon. What would you like to know more about? I could write about what happens if someone goes overboard on a cruise ship, what it’s like to camp on the ice, why geology is a piece of cake or why my nose is always running when I am out in the cold. Let me know what you’d like to hear about and I’ll keep you posted.
